Tellus Welcomes High School Interns This Summer

Tellus is proud to support the next generation of talent by welcoming two exceptional high school interns this summer, Jessica Long and Anika Agarwal. They are both rising juniors at Convent & Stuart Hall High School in San Francisco where they applied for the internship through a school program called Career Start. This program connects students with internship opportunities hosted by parents within the school community. Both interns submitted resumes and cover letters, participated in an interview, and were successfully selected from a competitive pool of 10 interested candidates. Tellus sees internships as a meaningful way to give back to their community and an opportunity to inform and inspire the incoming generation of professionals on the important work happening to improve our planet.
Anika is contributing to Tellus’s support of the U.S Environmental Protection Agency, Region 9 (USEPA) and California State Water Resources Control Board (Water Board) Leaking Underground Fuel Tank (LUFT) program, which is focused on prompting corrective actions at LUFT cleanup sites where soil or groundwater has been impacted and the assessment or remediation necessary for case cleanup and closure has stalled. Outside of Tellus, Anika loves acting, and this year was centerstage as Miss Scarlett at Convent’s production of Clue. At Tellus, she is addressing contaminated sites and is learning how to use GeoTracker, the Water Board’s environmental data management system for sites with potential to impact groundwater. Her project is to create two case summaries for two legacy stalled LUFT sites that will provide Water Board’s caseworkers with property details, historical overview of the site, release and site characterization information, environmental sampling data, as well as preliminary steps to clean up contamination so that the case will meet the low-threat case closure policy.
Jessica is contributing to improving Tellus’ marketing by providing insights on how to refresh Tellus’ external materials and website. When she is not at Tellus, Jessica is on the field. She loves to play field hockey year-round with her team, the San Francisco Hawks. At Tellus, she will bring that same energy in her project where she is focused on updating the company website both in content and functionality, reviewing company external facing materials, such as Statements of Qualifications (SOQ), and giving them a fresh look, developing a news story, and refining resumes for existing proposal efforts. With Tellus celebrating four years in business at the end of June, Jessica’s skill in creating visually compelling and cohesive marketing products is greatly appreciated.
Their internships will provide meaningful real-world experience while allowing them to contribute to ongoing projects that support environmental protection and community engagement. Tellus is pleased to welcome Jessica and Anika and looks forward to supporting their growth throughout the program.
